Designing a Custom Home

The AVID custom design process is the most effective and efficient process in the industry. With Designer Direct­™ and A-Link™ services, AVID brings our design staff to you. No adminsitrative go-betweens, no back-and-forth communications, and NEVER a charge for initial consulation or quotes. Just direct contact and communications with the AVID professional design staff.

The AVID custom design process consists of six basic steps.

1	Initial Discovery - FREE! This is the most imporatnt phase of the entire process. AVID designers not only want to get the physical characteristics of your new home, but want to understand your passions, hobbies, likes and dislikes. Do you like to cook? Do you have kids? Where do you think you will be in fiver years? After gathering as much information as possible, AVID will develop an accurate quote. 2	Development and Design - 40% Deposit After acceptance of this quote, AVID will generate a binding agreement between the client and AVID. These agreements detail the binding relationship between AVID and the client. A Scope of Work is produced for the design and serves as a guide for the project. Many times, the scope of work is taken directly from the Initial Discovery phase documents. This phase finishes by presenting the client with conceptual wall layouts. 3	Consultation - Optional Involves collaboration between the AVID designers and the client. The two parties review the conceptual wall layouts for accuracy. Designers may use A-Link™ services to improve the effectiveness of this collaboration. During this phase, a list of modifications to the conceptual wall layouts is created. A specific amount of time is allotted for this phase. This part of the AVID service is not required. A customer can stop the process with a set of conceptual designs. 4	Modification Based on the clients requests in the Consultation Phase, AVID designers change the conceptual wall layouts. A specific amount of time is allotted for this phase. As you can see from the sample at the right, the client has changed the shape and size of the master bedroom during the consultation phase of the process (top left of drawing).  This phase finishes with an approved conceptual wall layout.  Click on the image to the right to see a complete set of conceptual layouts.
5	Construction Documents - 40% Payment Once conceptual layouts are approved, the construction documents are updated. AVID designers create a full set of construction drawings. These drawings include: cover sheet, foundation plan, detailed floor plan(s), roof plan and exterior elevations.  Click on the image to the right to see a complete set of construction documents.
6	Delivery Final 20% Payment Completed drawing set(s) are produced and delivered to local AVID Market Manager or directly to the client. Shipping and express delivery are not included in quote. Prior to delivery, the final payment for the design process is required.
